ABC News is losing one of its most experienced reporters to a rival network. Matt Gutman has been a regular contributor to the Disney-owned ABC, reporting for Good Morning America, Nightline, and other shows.
He’ll be taking his talents over to CBS. Over there, he’ll serve as the chief correspondent. In addition to being a part of CBS Mornings and the CBS Evening News, he’ll also be the lead correspondent for 48 Hours. In addition, he will contribute to future seasons of the program 60 Minutes.
Matt Gutman is swapping ABC News for Paramount Skydance

Getting Matt Gutman is a massive coup for Paramount Skydance, which owns CBS. The 48-year-old has nearly three decades of industry experience. He’s covered everything from the George Floyd death to the COVID pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As part of the announcement on CBS News, the network’s editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, said, “he (Matt) approaches his work with the qualities we look for in all our journalists: fearlessness, energy and relentlessness.”
This hiring comes amid sweeping changes at CBS this year. Among them was Bari coming into her new roles, with some believing in November that she was there to bring in more right-wing programming. John Dickerson announced he’s leaving his role as CBS Evening News co-anchor at the end of the year. There are also reports that Gayle King is leaving the CBS network when her contract expires in May of next year.
While Matt’s had mostly strong moments on air, there was one he’d rather forget. In 2020, he was suspended for a false report about NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. At CBS, he will at times serve as a fill-in anchor for the network’s flagship broadcasts. He’ll start on January 5, 2026.
