Porsha Williams is letting the world know she is no punk. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star seems to have found her calling in life, but she comes by it naturally. She is carrying on the tradition of her family name by protesting injustices sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement. The murder of George Floyd prompted the world to come together to shine light on the discrimination people of color receive for living their daily lives.
Porsha has been keeping her fans updated on her mission via social media. She has attended protests and detailed her experience with first-person accounts, including being tear gassed at a peaceful demonstration. Most recently, she and others found themselves in Kentucky in an effort to seek justice in the senseless killing of Breonna Taylor. Ultimately Porsha was among a group of people arrested and charged with felony intimidating a participant in a legal process, disorderly conduct in the second degree, and criminal trespassing. This sentence offered a jail term of up to five years if convicted. Now felony charges against Porsha and attendees have been dropped, but it isn’t over by a long shot.
The “official” details surrounding this tragic incident are muddy, at best. This act ignited even more unrest in a society already plagued by the crimes against George Floyd. Porsha felt the need to include her voice with the others who want justice for Ms. Taylor’s untimely death. All 87 demonstrators were initially charged with a felony and two lesser misdemeanors, but felony charges carry a heftier punishment.
According to TMZ, felony charges have now been dropped. Protesters were demonstrating on the front lawn of the home of Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and people are calling for the arrest of the officers involved with the killing of Breonna Taylor. Breonna was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department on March 13, 2020. Three plainclothes officers executing a no-knock search warrant entered her home in Louisville, Kentucky. The officers fired multiple times and Breonna was shot eight times, she was in her bed when police entered her house.

On Friday, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell says he is DROPPING the felony for all 87 people, effective immediately. He said, “After careful review of the law, I am dismissing the felony charge of Intimidating a Participant in the Legal Process against the protesters arrested on Attorney General Cameron’s property on July 14, 2020.”

For now, the misdemeanor charges against Porsha and others still stand but will be reviewed at a later time. Something tells me Porsha won’t allow this to interfere with her main objective. This is a person who has gone from physically dragging someone by their hair across a reunion stage to a woman who is standing up to curse the maltreatment of others. I’d say she is definitely going in the right direction.
