Welcome to the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 4 Reunion, Part 1 recap. There’s a lot to get through! Lisa explains the significance of the $60,000 ring she lost at the Palm Springs airport. Monica clarifies her relationship with Jen Shah and how she got on the show. Plus, Angie revisits the rumor about her husband being gay. But what about the elephant in the room? Monica warns us, “There is so much more to the story, and trust me, you’re all gonna want to hear it.” Here are the highlights from the RHOSLC Season 4 reunion, Part 1.
Why the $60,000 ring was such a big deal
“This season, new housewife Monica stepped out of her Range Rover and right into a snowstorm of drama,” Andy begins. “Through it all this newbie was never afraid to keep it 100 with Salt Lake City’s one percent.”
Turning to Monica, Andy asks, “Why were you so annoyed about Lisa carrying on about the $60,000 ring? … If you had lost a $60,000 ring, you’d be freaking out about it.”
“Lisa had every right to be upset about losing her ring,” Monica responds. “What I didn’t like was that [she kept repeating the $60,000 price tag].”
At this point, Lisa jumps in to explain that she only said the price three times. “Everybody processes things differently,” she says. “For me, losing that [ring] was a big deal. Henry almost died after I had him, and John gave me that ring, because I was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to be able to have more kids’ … That meant more than just a ring that I wear on my finger. Every time I look at it, [I think of] our two beautiful babies.”
Monica says, “That’s beautiful. I didn’t know any of that.”
“To me it’s a symbol,” Lisa tearfully explains. “It was sentimental.” Sadly, the ring was never seen again. Insurance did pay out so she could get another one, though.
Who took the ring?
Andy then shifts the conversation to a rumor that Monica was the one who snatched the ring. “Where do you think the rumor started?” he asks her.
Monica thinks Lisa and Heather started the rumor, but Lisa vehemently denies any responsibility. Heather admits she thought that Monica may have stolen the ring, but she never said it out loud.
As the argument continues, Angie blurts out, “She didn’t say you took it.”
“Why are you talking, bench-warming bitch?” Monica yells back at her. “This doesn’t even involve you, just like most of the season.” Ouch. That was harsh.
Was Monica even Jen’s employee?
Moving on, Andy shifts gears and asks Monica, “We learned early on about your connection with Jen Shah. Were you two close friends or how would you describe your relationship?”
“I would describe it as we were friends first,” Monica replies, “and then I was working for her. Then enemies, I guess?”
“She needed help at the time with, honestly, her life,” Monica continues. “Now, looking back and knowing everything, I’m like, ‘Okay, I get it.’ I almost felt like I was just more of a friend … like I would go and get her groceries. I would make sure she was on time to her freaking meetings.”
Monica claims Jen didn’t even pay her. Why? “Honestly, she was my friend, [and] she needed help,” she says. Monica was just “helping her as a friend.” Did you ever notice how many times Monica uses the word “honestly?” I’m always suspicious when people use that word. It kind of implies that they’re normally dishonest.
But Heather brought receipts and pulls out her phone. She plays an audio clip of Monica saying, “F*cking Kim Kardashian was a f*cking assistant, and look at that bitch now! I can fully admit that the whole reason I was an assistant and putting up with that sh*t was as a stepping stone and as a learning experience.”
“So that proves what?” Andy asks Heather. “That she was doing it to get on the show?” Heather nods yes.
How was Monica cast?
“Were you being [Jen’s] assistant to get on the show?” Andy asks Monica.
“I didn’t think I would ever end up on the show, honestly,” she says. “But why wouldn’t I try to get on the show? Honestly, when I applied … I applied just like everybody else sitting here … [by emailing] casting. I said, ‘My name is Monica Fowler, and your show sucks and your ratings are sh*t, and it’s gonna get canceled because you don’t have the right cast.’ That’s what I said. I’m being honest.”
Honestly, she’s not, because Bravo puts her actual email on the screen. It reads, “Reaching out in regards to your casting call! Would love more information on what needs to be done or how to move forward. You guys need a feisty excommunicated Latina on the show immediately. I’m your girl! – Monica F.” Wow. Monica’s just been caught in another lie. And this one might see her booted from the show, if there was any chance of her getting a callback.
“Rumors and nastiness”
Andy reads a question from another Andy in Beverly Hills. “Angie, why were you so quick to forgive Monica when she was the one spreading the gay rumors about your husband that literally made him cry, especially since your daughter’s going to see this in the future?”
“At the time, I was really confused,” Angie says. “In the moment, I was really focused on Meredith being the [culprit]. [But] when I went to the dessert shop, Monica really cried. I’m a very empathetic person, I felt sorry for her situation with her mom. I think I gave her a lot of grace, so … I gave her the benefit of the doubt.”
“It was sad seeing Shawn get emotional about the cheating allegations,” Andy continues. “How are you, Shawn, and Elektra doing after all this has aired?”
“Doing great,” Angie chirps. She explains that 30 years ago when they first moved to Salt Lake City, people would comment on her husband’s good looks as he was doing hair and ask if he was gay. Once they realized he had a wife, the rumors and questions settled down.
“So to have this suddenly 30 years later … this has never come up until this rat,” pointing at Monica, “came out of the sewer, and here it is.”
As Meredith would say in Bermuda, boom boom. See you next week for the second part of the three-part RHOSLC reunion.
