Vanderpump Villa Winners and Losers

The first season of Vanderpump Villa is over. Lisa Vanderpump planned perfectly curated, luxurious experiences for her guests at Chateau Rosabelle. The estate, located in the French countryside, seems removed from the modern world. It screams extravagance. And shows Lisa’s obsession with floral arrangements.

Lisa hand-picked her staff to both live and work at the chateau. And that factor amped up the drama among the cast. They also competed to show Lisa that they deserved a spot working for her.

Meanwhile, they were also hooking up, arguing, drinking, and bonding. This group was giving Vanderpump Rules vibes with their messy behavior. Let’s take a look back at the Vanderpump Villa winners and losers.

Winner: Lisa Vanderpump

Lisa told Life & Style, “We wanted to make an immersive experience full of characters that would bring the life and soul to the party. It’s deliciously naughty, but also has a feel-good factor we all need right now.” Amen!

Lisa created magnificent experiences for her guests, all while mentoring some staff members and disciplining others. She had her hands full, but this series was fun and refreshing.

Winner: Stephen Alsvig

Stephen Alsvig interviewed for the chateau manager role, which ultimately went to Eric Funderwhite. Stephen was annoyed by Eric’s drinking with the guests and not reprimanding the staff for doing the same.

Finally, after Eric went too far, Lisa allowed Stephen to step into Eric’s role. While he did a great job, he also second-guessed himself. In the end, Lisa put Eric back in the chateau manager position. But with positive remarks on his comment card, Stephen proved his worth to Lisa.

Loser: Eric Funderwhite

At first, Eric seemed like an eccentric wildcard. He did a striptease for a guest and spanked her with his belt. He poured alcohol from bottles down his throat and communed with the sheep and donkeys. He also romanced three co-stars: Emily Kovacs, Caroline Byl, and Nikki Millman.

But all of that was a lot less cute when Eric’s past came to light. According to The U.S. Sun, “Eric was disinvited from the Vanderpump Villa reunion taping because of his TRO (temporary restraining order).”

In November 2020, Eric’s ex-wife filed for a temporary restraining order. The order was dismissed in December 2020. Eric’s ex alleged that he “physically assaulted” her. I think we have seen the last of Eric, and I’m fine with that.

Loser: Telly Hall

Telly Hall was a mixologist with a temper. She argued with Marciano Brunette and shoved him. That was not cool, Telly. Then she became besties with Hannah Fouch, and the duo insulted Gabriella Sanon’s appearance. Body shaming is also never okay.

Telly often questioned whether she wanted to be at the chateau, but with Lisa’s support, decided to bet on herself. She brought the fun factor for the guests, but her comments about Gabriella were just not acceptable.

Winner: Gabriella Sanon

Gabriella was one of the event coordinators at the chateau. She immediately was attracted to mixologist Andre Mitchell, but she backed off because housekeeper Grace Cottrell also had a crush. Grace confessed her feelings, and Andre told her he didn’t feel the same.

So, Andre and Gabriella started hooking up. Hannah and Telly were furious and called Gabriella’s actions into question because of Grace. The duo made insulting comments about Gabriella’s appearance. All in all, Gabriella didn’t let her co-workers’ comments affect her and kept her head held high.

Winner: Andre Mitchell

Andre was the most eligible bachelor in the chateau, and he loved every moment of it. Not only was he nice, but he made sure that the guests had a good time. We had high hopes for his relationship with Gabriella, but their romance fizzled out once they left the chateau.

Loser: Hannah Fouch

Hannah and her ex-boyfriend, Marciano, were not dating when they arrived at Chateau Rosebelle. But they started hooking up again. Of course, Marciano was unfaithful in the past. So, no one should have been surprised when he kissed a guest. But Hannah was blindsided.

Besides feuding with Marciano, Hannah had a penchant for screaming at her co-stars in the middle of the night. What a charming trait! She insulted Gabriella’s looks and fought with Grace and Emily. Hannah was involved in all the drama. It was a lot.

Winner: Priscila Ferrari

Server Priscila Ferrari also argued with Hannah about the way she was sitting near Marciano. Lordy! Poor Priscila was homesick, and with Lisa’s support, decided to prioritize her mental health and leave the chateau.

Winner: Caroline Byl

Sous chef Caroline was a hard worker. After a while, she bonded with Eric because they were both divorced. But when Eric started to pay attention to Nikki, she called out Nikki for being unprofessional and kissing a guest. Still, Caroline remained classy and didn’t dive into all the drama.

Winner: Emily Kovacs

Emily managed to slip out of her housekeeping duties and fill in as both a bartender and a server. She hoped to move up to bartending permanently at the chateau.

She earned major points for telling Gabriella about Telly and Hannah’s rude comments, and made a toast for the ages, calling out the duo. Cheers!

Loser: Marciano Brunette

After Marciano kissed a guest, Lisa was furious. The resulting screaming match with Hannah disturbed the clients. So, Lisa put Marciano in the kitchen to wash dishes. Welcome to the dish pit, Marciano! Hannah loved his fall from grace. And she wasn’t alone.

At the reunion, Lisa pointed out that he was disrespectful to women. Marciano proved her point by saying that he “allowed” Hannah to do certain things. Seriously, Marciano? He certainly doesn’t merit a spot on the Vanderpump Villas winner’s list.

Winner: Grace Cottrell

Grace wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. The housekeeper confronted Marciano when he dissed Chef Anthony Bar. Grace received positive comments from the guests, and formed a close bond with Emily.

Winner: Chef Anthony Bar

Chef Anthony’s edible creations wowed all the guests. He didn’t take kindly to Eric overstepping his bounds and turning a refined dinner into a club atmosphere. His fellow staff members spoke so highly of Anthony that he received an additional bonus from Lisa.

Draw: Nikki Millman

Viewers didn’t have much of a chance to get to know the newbie. She arrived after Priscila departed, and raised eyebrows by snuggling with Eric. She cried during her first night at the chateau after Hannah slammed her. Still, we didn’t see enough to form a solid opinion.

The GOAT Episode 6 Recap: What Bravo Alliance?

It’s that time of the week again! We’re back for another recap of Prime Video’s The GOAT — and trust me, you don’t want to miss this one. Last week’s episode finished with a surprising double elimination, which sent Justin/Alyssa and Teck packing under Da’Vonne’s power. Some of the remaining cast members, like Reza from Shahs of Sunset and Wendell from Survivor, haven’t been too keen on all of the power the Big Brother star has had so far, so they’re trying anything they can to make sure her plans are thwarted. But will they be successful? Here’s everything that went down on The GOAT Episode 6: Bravo Breakdown.

Who is The GOAT in Episode 6?

Photo Credit: Anna Webber/Getty Images for Prime Video

Jill Zarin was named The GOAT in Season 1, Episode 6.

We’re down to the final eight contestants, and things are about to get messy. For this week’s GOAT challenge, Daniel Tosh told the contestants they were celebrating house reality shows. Think programs like The Real World, The Bad Girls Club, and his show—The GOAT— “where everyone lives together as a happy family for the first three hours.” Before the challenge, Jill and Da’Vonne got together to discuss their plan. Like last week, they knew they had to do whatever they could to win the competition. Elsewhere in the house, Wendell and Joe spoke, and although there wasn’t much said, they understood they were each other’s targets. “With numbers dwindling, I’ve always been a target; I think I’m an even bigger target now,” Wendell said in his confessional. “I need to be immune, so I need to win.”

For the challenge, Tosh explained that he would give the players a scramble of letters and a clue as to what the word was. Their job is to unscramble it correctly, and if they do, they get to pop one of three balloons filled with GOATmeal above another player’s head. Several of the cast members had different strategies. Da’Vonne was excited to play so she could see who was targeting her. Wendell, on the other hand, wanted to avoid having a bigger target on his back, so he got the first scramble wrong. Joe’s plan was to go after those who targeted him. So, naturally, he chose to pop Wendell’s first balloon. Chef Jason also got the first word right and popped Joe’s balloon in return. Reza, though, had two of his balloons popped by Da’Vonne and Paola.

As the competition continued, there were popped balloons and GOATmeal everywhere. The final three came down to Paola, CJ, and Jill. However, it was Jill who emerged victorious, making her this week’s GOAT. What could go wrong?

The elimination challenge details

By this point, Jill and Da’Vonne (who are each other’s No. 1s) have discussed the master plan, which was to target one of the stronger men. Reza was somewhere else in the house and believed he had nothing to worry about since Jill, his Bravo bestie, was the week’s GOAT. “I’m hoping that plays in my favor,” he said.

For the elimination challenge, Jill had to divide the remaining contestants into two teams: Purple and Orange. For her team, she chose Jason, Da’Vonne, and Wendell. In her confessional, she told the producers that she made sure both teams had a target (Wendell and Reza) in case her team wouldn’t be able to pull out the win.

In keeping with this week’s theme of house reality shows, the teams had to balance themselves on beams while building a house made of 16 bricks on a wobbly tabletop. The top would only stay put when the rope was taut. One by one, each player would move to the center to stack their brick, and if anything fell, they had to start over.

Of course, there was some tension during the challenge because Reza didn’t believe the teams were fair. “Jill is straight tripping if she’s thinking these teams are fair,” he told producers. “She stacked her side. So, [I’ll do] whatever I gotta do.” … “You’re going down, Jill,” he finished.

But he didn’t take her down. In fact, Jill and her team won, meaning the house’s biggest targets (Day and Wendell) would be safe. So, who could be going home? It surely couldn’t be Jill’s longtime friend from the Bravosphere, Reza, could it? It’s time to find out.

Who went home in The GOAT Episode 6?

Reza Farahan was the seventh reality star eliminated from The GOAT.

Before the elimination ceremony, the players from the losing team (Reza, Joe, Paola, and CJ) had to play politics to get enough votes to keep them safe. However, it seemed like Joe was the only one putting the pedal to the metal.

In another room, Reza went off. “Jill is a f*cking bitch,” he told Wendell. “F*ck Jill.” He continued, saying, “Jill’s bitch ass couldn’t put me on her team instead of Jason? … She’s picking you and Da’Vonne. That’s not sending a message?”

In his confessional, he told producers that he wanted to stay but felt he was Day’s biggest target. But before they cast their votes for elimination, he had to play one final move. So, he marched into the girls’ green room (where they were getting their hair and makeup done) and totally took them by surprise. “Hair and makeup? That’s an off-limits area,” Jill said in her confessional. “That’s a no-no, Reza. What’s going on?” He told Jill that he wanted to stay in the house, and if the final votes boiled down to a tie and she sent him home, that would be his “worst nightmare.”

“If I end up going home when you’re GOAT, and you vote me out, I’m going to be so hurt just on a personal level,” he said. Jill, however, wasn’t here for it. “[This is the] first time he’s come to me, which tells me a lot,” she said. “He’s only coming to me because he’s in trouble.”

So, during the elimination ceremony, Tosh gathered the nominated cast members and began reading the votes. But you already know where this one was going. Reza received the most votes (five), which made him the next reality contestant sent packing.

On his way out, he said it was a “pleasure meeting most of the people in this house.” He continued, saying he would stay in touch with most of them and to “please vote Jill out of this mother-f*cking house” before flipping her both of his middle fingers.

In his final interview, he didn’t hold back. “I can’t wait to get my phone, my computer, and my watch and get real petty and block that bitch.”

Stream The GOAT every Thursday on Prime Video.

The Valley Episode 11 Recap: Darkside Danny

Danny and Nia Booko

Welcome back to The Valley Episode 11 recap, “Darkside Danny.” In last week’s episode, fans watched as the group trip to Big Bear intensified. The men were kumbayaing around the fire, which led to revelations. Jesse announced he thought his marriage to Michelle had finally come to the end of the road. While Danny cried over not being thanked enough for waking up every two hours to feed the twins he helped make. The worst, however, was Jax’s constant gaslighting of Brittany. In the end, the Kentucky queen raged against her husband only to pretend like nothing had even happened the next day. Honestly, a fan could get whiplash from all this.

Surprise, you’re having a baby!

As Jasmine and Michelle prepare for the baby shower with a $300 diaper cake, the party starts to come together. Brittany and Nia chat over their morning cup of Joe with the mother of one noting Jax has officially apologized for his outburst. Obviously, no one is buying it.

Cut to the men drinking and fishing. I have never seen so many men acting like a fish out of water, pun intended. Danny is inebriated. And that is putting it lightly. Jesse has gone boat hopping, leaving his lameish friends behind as he makes his own Titanic moment with strangers. Honestly, I love Jesse, and I need him to return for Season 2.

Michelle comes clean

The Valley

As the men fish for their dinner, Michelle opens up to Brittany about Jesse knowing everything about her secret texts. While Michelle feels therapy is working for Jesse, he is still “so extreme in everything he does. So now he is all over me. It’s actually putting me off.” When Brittany asks the hard-hitting question about whether she wants to still be in her marriage, Michelle’s silence speaks volumes. “I do, and I don’t,” noting she is “not really” attracted to him still. “It’s a process for me to understand. I was very attracted to Jesse when I first met him till now that there is nothing that he can do that I think is attractive. It’s not only physically. Everything just bugs me.”

For the first time all season, Michelle showed an emotional side as she shared, “I want to feel the way I used to feel for him. I feel bad because it’s me who has to make the decision. I don’t want to be the bad person.” It becomes very apparent during Episode 11 that Michelle is not happy. The mother of one goes on to state, “When I got married, I never thought I’d feel this way about my husband. I was very in love with him. A small part of me feels like a failure. I never thought I’d get to a place like this.”

The life sh*t gets real

After a whirlwind fight between Jax and Brittany, where the veteran OG tried gaslighting his wife’s friends into believing she had a drinking problem, Janet decided to sit B down for a heart-to-heart. Poor Britt has broken out in hives because her body is rejecting her marriage to Jax. But Janet gets down to the nitty-gritty, saying, “Basically, we need to talk. His delivery is wrong and super harsh. He can’t just come out and scream at you.”

Our Kentucky princess seems to agree as she shares she is “Super embarrassed because I am at home with my child 24/7, and I don’t drink. I’m a mother first, and I’m allowed to have a drink sometimes. Jax is a terrible communicator. I’ve been dealing with this for eight years.” Janet adds “I care about and love you guys so much. I just want to see you in a better place. You guys just aren’t communicating well. I know you don’t believe in divorce.” But B cuts Janet off, adding, “Oh, we will go down that path.”

The expecting mother just basically said what every viewer is thinking- that she doesn’t see Brittany’s relationship with Jax getting any better. In fact, she sees it getting much worse. Now Janet has been quite the messy bee as she has skipped from friend to friend trying to collect all the honey. But in this case, our girl Janet isn’t wrong in her observations.

Fantasy vs reality

The Valley

For the final night, the entire cast indulged in a themed dinner. The partners were asked to dress as their spouses’ fantasy. Who knew Harry Styles did it for Michelle? Chef Tammy had no idea who she would be serving but the poor cook should have been warned. I did have to laugh when Jax complained about being constipated as he tried to garner sympathy from his wife, whom he had only yelled at hours prior. Jason has been a slow burn for me, but he is on point with his reads of the guys in the group. He outdid himself when he stepped out as a hotdog, one of his wife’s pregnancy cravings.

Jax is still pacing back and forth, worrying he looks fat in what I can only guess is a basketball costume. I thought Britt Britt would wish for something different but to each their own. B has dressed up as a sexy puck bunny and honestly looks the best she has all season. However, we start to see Danny slip off that high pedestal of his. Nia’s ranch-dressing costume failed to show up, leaving him quite upset.

The dinner goes downhill quickly as Danny once again states how he is the only one who has three kids, as if that gives him a get-out jail-free card for his antics as of late. As Danny gets heated, Nia tries to help him find his inner zen, but Danny quips, “Don’t tell me to stop. You’ve f*cked me over.”  If we’ve learned one thing this season, Danny is sensitive. Seeing the perfect couple get spicy with one another just hinted to fans that something more is going on.

The Valley continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.

Below Deck’s Ben Willoughby and Sunny Marquis Confirm Relationship After Filming

Photo Credit: Charles Sykes/Bravo via Getty Images

A Below Deck miracle has occurred! Bosun Ben Willoughby and lead deckhand Sunny Marquis beat the odds of the dreaded boatmance and are still going strong after their charter season ended. Their relationship had more ups and downs than a super yacht bobbing through rough seas. However, the two are still together and Ben shared a message to announce the big news.

Ben and Sunny prove everyone wrong

Out of all the boatmance’s this season, one probably wouldn’t have predicted that Ben and Sunny would be a couple after filming ended. My money would have been on Barbie Pascual and Kyle Stillie. They were friends first before taking it to the next level. And once they committed, they were inseparable. However, Ben and Sunny were a different story.

Sunny caught feelings quickly for Ben, but Ben was touch and go. One minute he acted like they were a couple, and then the next he informed Sunny they were just sleeping together. Ben even called his ex boatmance from last season, Camille Lamb, to try and rekindle their flame. One would think Sunny was over the drama, but she settled for a fling.

So, it was quite the surprise when Ben took to Instagram to announce he was still together with Sunny. Ben wrote, “Yes you guessed it, we are still together!” Did anyone really guess that? He continued, “Finally we can let go of the secrecy that has been held for the past 15 months.” The fact that they are still together for over a year has to mean something.

Ben added, “We want to thank you all for the support throughout season 11 @belowdeckbravo it’s been a rollercoaster to relive the season and the beginning of a relationship. We ended up traveling the globe together last year and Sunny made her way to Australia for Christmas. Anyways, hoping you all enjoyed the season.” Ok, this sounds serious!

Do we have a new and improved Ben and Sunny? It will be interesting to see their relationship dynamic if they both come back next season. And I for one am looking forward to it.

Below Deck, Season 11 is now streaming on Peacock.

Best Vanderpump Rules Reunion Looks Ever

Vanderpump Rules-Season 11 reunion
Photo Credit: Griffen Nagel/Bravo via Getty Images

The three-part Vanderpump Rules reunion kicked off on Tuesday, May 14 on Bravo. The reunion glam was off-the-charts this year. Each member of the cast showed up dressed to impress. This year’s reunion fashion had me reminiscing about past reunion looks. Let’s take a trip down memory lane together.

Here are the best VPR reunion looks of all time:

Lala Kent (Season 11)

Lala Kent looked stunning at the Season 11 reunion. The expecting mother wore a floor-length lilac gown by the acclaimed designer Oscar de la Renta. She paired the dress with Amina Muaddi high heels. Her accessories for the event were from the Brooklyn-based jewelry and handbag company Alexis Bittar. She wore her hair down, styled by LA hairstylist Bradley Leake. Perhaps the most stunning part of her look was the makeup, which she did herself.  The VPR star rocked a soft purple eyeshadow that perfectly matched her dress and nails.

She spoke about the inspiration behind the look in a May Instagram Story, telling fans she was channeling “mama” vibes.

“I wanted whimsical, flowy, feminine, and delicate,” she said.

I think she nailed the look. The softness of the makeup paired perfectly with the dress. Overall, this look was a 10/10 for me.

James Kennedy (Season 11)

James Kennedy looked dapper at this year’s reunion. Dare I say he looked the best of all the gentlemen onstage. The 32-year-old wore a light pink suit by Twisted Tailor paired with white sneakers. He explained his look in an interview with BravoTV.com ahead of the reunion, stating, “I always wanna throw in a little James Bond vibe — fitted suits and unique colors.” Love that. I think he looked great. 9/10.

Ariana Madix (Season 11)

Ariana Madix was another VPR star who killed it at the Season 11 reunion. The fan favorite went with a full sheer look, which included a sexy sheer bodysuit and sheer skirt. She described the look to BravoTV.com as “futuristic” and “naked.” Obsessed. 8/10.

Ariana Madix (Season 10)

I bet you expected to see Ariana’s iconic revenge dress on this list. The 38-year-old looked hot as h*ll at the Season 10 reunion in an all-red ensemble that showed off her abs.

She spoke about how the look came together during an interview on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna. She revealed she scrapped her original reunion ensemble after her longtime boyfriend’s affair came to light.

“My revenge dress that I wore on the reunion … I had options that I was working with my friend Emily Men, who is an incredible stylist, and then when all of this happened, it was like, ‘Nope, scrap all of those. We’re going back to the drawing board. We need something absolutely incredible,’” she said. “And she found that dress and she’s great at what she does.”

10/10 duh!

Scheana Shay (Season 10)

Photo Credit: Nicole Weingart/Bravo via Getty Images

Scheana Shay’s Season 10 look is my favorite of all her reunion looks. The Bravo star wore a shimmering gold dress from the New York brand Miss Circle. She paired the floor-length gown with a pair of shiny gold heels. She wore her hair down and wavy, which added to the sultry vibe of the look. Also, we have to give props to her Part III look, where she sat backstage in an “Everynite Is VPR Nite” hoodie and sipped on a white claw while her castmates eviscerated Rachel Leviss and Tom Sandoval. Iconic. 7/10.

Rachel Leviss (Season 9)

Rachel’s Season 9 look fit her perfectly. The former beauty queen wore a mint green mini-dress and nude heels. Her makeup was soft and feminine. 9/10.

James Kennedy (Season 9)

James served a look at the Season 9 reunion. The DJ sported a lilac suit layered over a black button-down shirt. He finished off the look with a pair of black boots. I love how James is not afraid of a little color. 8/10.

Tom Sandoval (Season 7)

Photo Credit: Nicole Weingart/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images

Sandoval looked preppy and chic at the Season 7 reunion and I have to admit, it worked for me. I loved the shoes and the layering of the sweater over the button-down shirt. Chef’s kiss! 9/10.

Lala Kent (Season 5)

Photo Credit: Nicole Weingart/Bravo/NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images

Lala looked incredible at the Season 5 reunion. The Utah native wore a white off-the-shoulder top paired with white wide-leg slacks. She completed the look with a pearl choker. She absolutely killed it. 10/10.

EXCLUSIVE: OMG Fashun Episode 7, Winner’s Walk Interview With Carlos Reyes

Carlos Reyes, OMG Fashun 107

The final week of OMG Fashun just aired on E!, bringing us one of our last winners in Carlos Reyes. Carlos appeared in Episode 107, called “Saints & Sinners”, where their whimsical designs wowed Julia Fox, Law Roach, and Richie Shazam. This tracks, as Carlos’ designs are everywhere, including the catwalks of New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.

Carlos’ website states that their brand Renacio seeks to “Embrace childlike wonder while exploring dark and whimsical themes.” Wearing Renacio is akin to wearing “subtle poetry,” due to the intricate details found within each piece. This level of attention just saw Carlos edging out their fellow Disruptors, earning themselves a spot as the seventh winner on E!. Following this, Carlos met up with Reality Tea’s writer Amy DeVore, where the two shared one final interview for this inaugural season of OMG Fashun.

Carlos’ first impressions

OMG Fashun 107

Amy DeVore: Your presence gives off such main character energy. Let’s talk about your own first impressions. Starting with Julia.

Carlos Reyes: First impression clearly, she’s just so, so, so stunning. Each look of hers is so beautifully curated and thoughtful, down to the hair and the makeup, and I know these are very superficial things, but working in fashion, it’s really beautiful to see a head-to-toe, fully realized concept delivered so beautifully. So. incredible first impression with Julia.

Amy: Love it. Now, Law.

Carlos: Instantly intimidating, because Law has a history of having no filter. But I’m also in awe, because Law is one of the top stylists in the world. Knowing that I’m going to receive a critique is very exciting. And I know it will be helpful, regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

Amy: And finally, Richie. Spill it.

Carlos: So Richie, socialite from New York, runs within this socialites sphere, which is an important aspect in the fashion world, because the socialites invent the trends. So seeing that one of the guest judges is Richie, it’s exciting in the sense that we’re going to get one of the forefront avant-garde thinkers of fashion here.

Ugh. Not denim.

Carlos Reyes, OMG Fashun 107

Amy: In your style challenge, you said that you “never work with denim,” and that this was the worst item. Even still, you won. But I have to ask. Why is denim not your bestie?

Carlos: Ever since I started fashion school in Texas, and then in Paris, and then continuing all of my studies, they have all been focused on evening wear and evening wear fabrics. Denim is so far away from what I do, because it’s hard and durable, and the kind of stitching techniques that you have to do are completely different. It’s just not a world I’m familiar with.

“Heavenly designs”

Carlos Reyes, OMG Fashun 107

Amy: Once Julia announced that you had to upcycle your materials into a “heavenly design,” you and your costar Deborah had similar ideas on using the same Saint as your guide. She felt the pressure, but you came off as being unbothered. But, were you?

Carlos: No. I’m very confident with my Catholic knowledge and my ability to turn out a concept from sketch to the final look. So yeah, I couldn’t be bothered.

Confessing and winning

Carlos Reyes, OMG Fashun 107

Amy: Each episode has a plot twist. For yours, you had to incorporate a sin into your design. You chose lust. How did this plot twist reshape your design?

Carlos: It threw a massive wrench in my plans, but at the same time, I love a wrench. Once that was announced, it’s like, okay, I have to pivot, and I have to do something that really heightens the sex factor of this. When I was making it, I thought, we have these black laces, I’ll do the cross in the back, and I’ll try to make this lustful in the back. Religious in the front, party in the back.

Amy: Same. As for the result, Julia didn’t hate it, while Law said that “it’s just not enough.” Then, Julia admitted that she could see herself wearing it, but first, she’d need to style the “hell out of it.” You laughed, but also, this was a lot. So what was going through your mind here?

Carlos: To be honest, I blacked out. But from what I can remember, it was shocking, because I am a very competitive person. I love to be put in these situations where I’m praised, usually, and so to not have that confident ‘Yes, this is the best thing we’ve ever seen,’ it was jarring.

Carlos’ final crowned words of wisdom

Carlos Reyes, OMG Fashun 107

Amy: You won! What are your next steps?

Carlos: I now have a full, brand new studio that is not in my living room. It is a studio that I share with Lucas Oakley in Bushwick. Next, I’m just now starting to get the ball rolling for my New York Fashion Week show in September. It’ll be September 10, at a cathedral, so I’m very excited for that.

Amy: That’s exciting. As far as upcyling goes, do you think that we’ll be seeing more of this fashion trend moving forward?

Carlos: Oh yeah, especially with shows like OMG fashion, with Fox being so unapologetic about upcycling, and finding different ways to make a greener fashion industry. It’s a trend that I’m definitely going to be hopping on a lot more as well.

Amy: For those just starting out, do you have any words of wisdom to share?

Carlos: Networking is really important. It can make or break you. However, none of that matters if you don’t have a really strong body of work. So I would recommend just keep working and creating, and then don’t think about it. Just learn and keep working.
