Below Deck charters are anything but easy. That’s why it’s important that the crew is constantly putting their best foot forward. However, there can be times when some crew members cannot complete their assigned tasks and need to take a break. On several occasions, certain crew members really stepped up to aid in the absence of their fellow teammates, which was much appreciated by the rest of the crew.

Anastasia Surmava really helped out her team during Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4, when she temporarily stepped in as the chef. Captain Sandy Yawn had previously hired Mila Kolomeitseva for the chef position, although she quickly proved that she could not handle the role. Mila broke every rule in the Below Deck kitchen, from using boxed pancake mix to licking steaks before she served them to guests.

When Captain Sandy finally fired Mila, it was difficult to find another chef on such short notice. As a result, Captain Sandy promoted 3rd Stew Anastasia to the role, until she could find a more seasoned chef. Anastasia did not have culinary training, but nonetheless was able to whip up some yummy dishes for the guests and crew. Due to this, Anastasia was the ultimate hero of Below Deck Med Season 4.

Captain Kerry Titheradge was arguably one of the only likable crew members on Below Deck Adventure, where he took on tasks apart from his own. As the Captain, Kerry was in charge of supervising the entire crew and was also responsible for every charter guest. Despite his long list of duties, Captain Kerry did not hesitate to step in for the crew where needed.

For instance, when Deckhand Kyle Dickard was fired early for inappropriate behavior, Captain Kerry did not complain about having to help out the exterior team. Furthermore, when Chef Jessica Condy burned her hand, Captain Kerry immediately stepped in to help prepare a picnic for the guests. Captain Kerry will soon be featured again on Below Deck Season 11, showing that his hard work did not go unnoticed!

Natalya Scudder did an amazing job as 2nd Stew during Below Deck Med Season 7, and she brought the same energy for Season 8. Shortly after stepping onboard, Natalya learned that Chief Stew Tumi Mhlongo would be running late due to visa issues. As a result, Captain Sandy asked Natalya to serve as Interim Chief Stew for the season’s first charter, which she agreed to.

Despite her time as Interim Chief Stew being short, Natalya nonetheless did an amazing job in the position. The guests were impressed with Natalya, and she also did a great job communicating with the rest of the crew. Furthermore, Natalya went out of her way to ensure that everything on the interior was perfect for Tumi’s arrival. It is evident that Natalya has a strong work ethic, and she really proved this during her time as Interim Chief Stew.

And So Did Luka Brunton

Natalya is not the only crew member who stepped up to the plate already on Below Deck Med Season 8, as Luka Brunton did as well. Luka began the season as a deckhand, following his appearance on Below Deck Down Under Season 2. However, after a difficult first day on the boat, Luka took on a much bigger responsibility.

Captain Sandy was forced to let go of Bosun Ruan Irving after it was revealed that his yachting papers had been falsified. After reaching out to see if any other bosuns were available, Captain Sandy learned that she would not be able to get one for two weeks. As a result, Captain Sandy asked Luka to take on the role of Interim Bosun, which he immediately agreed to. While Below Deck Med Season 8 has not been easy, Captain Sandy’s crew has not let her down.
