Cheerio, y’all! Without a doubt, the most amazing part of this job is getting to interview the fancy folks I get to watch each week on television. Every time, I’m happily surprised by how down to earth these people are–but this time, I wasn’t shocked at all. I knew the British gentlemen from Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles would exude nothing but grace and class–what a privilege to get to chat with James Harris and David Parnes!
With the premiere of MDLLA looming this evening at 9 PM/ET on Bravo, it was a huge treat to get to speak to two of the most gracious reality stars on the planet. In an effort to give you dear readers twice the accent and double the gentility, I’ve split their separate interviews into two posts. Tonight, please enjoy a peek into the charismatic personality that is James Harris. He’s absolutely every bit as precious as he appears on the show…maybe more so!

After I got over the lilting accent and his concern over the path of Hurricane Matthew after hearing I’d evacuated Charleston (stay safe friends on the coast!), James opened up about filming the latest season. He jokes, “I feel like we’ve been filming twelve and a half years. No, we’ve been filming for the past eleven or twelve months, and we’ve got an amazing season ahead. It’s action packed. The story lines are incredible. The properties are off the hook. Dave and I have a really amazing property coming up [on the premiere] worth $45 million. We’ve got some incredibly lavish open houses and parties that help us sell properties throughout the season. I just think it’s been great because we’ve been able to be creative to find our buyers and it’s been a lot of fun to shoot this season.”
When questioned about the return of Madison Hildebrand, James is as affable as ever, remarking, “Madison’s a cool guy. We’ve always had a great relationship with Madison and then we co-listed a property with Madison. The tables turned, but we still think he’s a great guy. In this business we all have to work together, and we all have to be amicable with one another. You know, we took a listing out in Malibu that we had to co-list with him, and it was an interesting experience. I’ll leave it at that. Fun interesting and crazy. I believe [our co-listing with Madison] will definitely come up later in the season. It feels like I spent three quarters of my life in Malibu. No, it’s been good and fun, and it was quite a nice experience to get to go to Malibu and show properties overlooking the ocean. When you’re from London, you definitely don’t say no to that!”
Obviously, I wanted to get James’ take on the Joshes, and he remained extremely diplomatic, especially where Altman is concerned. He shares, “It’s funny. I think Josh Altman had so much going on with the wedding and other things going on in his life, I really haven’t had that much interaction with Altman. [Josh] Flagg is, I can say, one of my dearest friends. He’s a complete nutcase and I love him dearly. We definitely interact a lot, but we haven’t done a deal this season, but we’re definitely there for each other. He’s been a great friend to me. There’s a lot going on in his life, and I think that’s going to be an interesting story line. So, no, not much interaction with the Joshes.”
It’s no surprise that the Bond Street Partners manage to stay above the fray of show induced drama. James attributes it to a very strong work ethic. He explains, “I think, for us, there is always that saying, ‘Keep your side of the street clean and everything will be okay.’ You know, we try to keep our heads down, be creative, work hard, and stay true to ourselves while having fun at the same time. There is drama, it does happen. Unfortunately it can’t be avoided. I’m a dad of two so I like to try to keep my cool, and keep my calm. But hey, we sometimes lose our tempers. The stakes are high, commissions are high, so with that comes drama, and losing it from time to time. I hate it, but it happens.”
You can’t mention James without asking about his beautiful family. When I inquired as to whether we’d be seeing more of his home life, James replies, “Definitely, yes! My two crazy angels will be shown this season, my wife. We’re now a family of four, and my wife’s brother is moving in with us. We’ll be moving into a new house. There’s a lot of really cool stories with it. My two kids are definitely in it, and they are definitely the best things that have ever happened to me, that’s for sure.”
And what of their Manhattan counterparts? James reveals, “Ryan [Serhant] has been in LA a lot lately, and he’s a really good guy. We’ve not done any business with Ryan, but between Fredrik Eklund, myself, and David, we do share a mutual client. Fredrick very much handles most of his business on the East Coast, and we handle all of his business on the West Coast. We’ve met with Fredrik on multiple occasions. I think he’s absolutely incredible, a fun guy. He’s entertaining and he’s a good laugh to be around, but we haven’t done any business with him yet. Hopefully that will come very soon in the near future.”
Expounding on the highlights of his career, James recalls, “We got to sell the iconic Hustler building on Sunset Boulevard. I think that was definitely a crazy one where we sold it for $18.5 million and we got to deal with Larry Flynt and his intricacies, should we say. We did just recently sell an unbelievable house in Holmby Hills for $30 million. It was actually featured on our very first season for $48 million and we ended up selling it to a very good client of ours. That was a 16,000 square foot, mad, modern contemporary house with a wine cellar, ten bedrooms and fifteen bathrooms. One of the craziest deals we did has to be on Melrose Place which is quite an iconic street. We ended up selling three buildings on that street for $30 million as well and ended up repping both the buyer and the seller. Because of that we got to work with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and Oscar de la Renta and Chloe. It was kind of out of our realm, but those are probably the craziest deals in terms of prices.”
As expected, James has a sincere soft spot for his fans. He tells me, “I always want the fans to know the truth. I try to stay true to myself while on camera which is obviously the best way to do it. I think I’d want the fans to know is that we’re incredibly grateful to them for watching us and following us. We’re very appreciative, and we hope that one day, if any of them wants to get into real estate, they know they can always e-mail us. We’re always willing to help. I think what I’d like them to know the most is to be true to yourself and work hard, everything can be achieved and more if you keep your focus.”
In the hopes of getting some dirt on David, I begged James to tell me one crazy and inappropriate story that David may not share himself. James stammers, “Oh boy! There are about 480,000 of those!” yet he declines to give any further dirt. Did David do the same? You’ll have to tune in for tomorrow’s installment. Bravo loves a crossover…almost as much as its stars! Bethenny Frankel isn’t afraid to speak her mind or flaunt her time with famous cohorts. The Real Housewives of New York star was recently spotted palling around with another Big Apple reality star of the real estate porn kind–Million Dollar Listing New York’s Fredrik Eklund. Of course, this pairing is more than a friendship, it’s a working relationship of the multi-million dollar kind.
With her drawn out divorce from Jason Hoppy finalized in July, that means the ex-hubs has vacated Bethenny’s one-time dream apartment. Now Bethenny is ready to start fresh, and let the apartment be someone else’s dream home. And obviously, if one decides to sell prime real estate in the heart of Manhattan, they need to enlist the best to make sure the property goes for asking price. That’s where the kung fu kicking agent comes in!

Fredrik posted the above picture of him and Bethenny yesterday on his Instagram, writing, “Thank you for trusting me to sell your apartment, Bethenny. I just listed 195 Hudson Street in TriBeCa at $6,950,000! A gorgeous, newly renovated 3,600 sqft corner 4-bedroom loft with private parking, so bright and beautiful. Details and photos of @bethennyfrankel ‘s loft with a link in my bio #weeee!”
The link takes the reader to an article on the People site which showcases the abode, complete with a giant dressing room and spa style bathroom in the master. Bethenny’s building, touted as one of Tribeca’s “most sought after boutique condo loft buildings,” also houses an apartment owned by Beyonce and Jay-Z. Those are some famous neighbors! I wonder if Bryn and Blue Ivy had play dates…
Bethenny had two of the bedrooms outfitted for daughter Bryn, complete with chalkboard paint, and the upstairs loft is set up as a large office. However, it could be transformed into a fifth bedroom. The kitchen includes a built-in espresso machine, state of the art appliances, and a wine fridge which has the potential to stock 180 bottles. Where do us little folks find one of those? No word on whether Bethenny’s pad will be featured as part of Fredrik’s MDLNY story line, but I wouldn’t be surprised!

Below Deck Mediterranean hit the airwaves this past summer, presenting another look at the Below Deck franchise in other waters. Kate Chastain, the awesomely snarky chief stew on Below Deck’s original series, gave Bravo her take on the Med spinoff and its season one cast members. Her basic assessment: They were great! Oh, except for Bryan Kattenburg. Yeah, he still sucks.
Kate especially loved seeing friend and coworker Ben Robinson star in the crossover series, especially enjoying his prowess with the ladies. She jokes, “I was just talking to Ben two days ago and said, ‘You know, [the] next season you do, you need to go for [hooking up with] three cast members in one season – like the Ben Grand Slam.”

During his time on Below Deck Med, Ben flirted with chief stew Hannah Ferrier (well, sort of…he mostly fended off her advances!), but ultimately hooked up with second stew Tiffany Copeland during the final episode.
Kate told Bravo’s Daily Dish she thinks Ben played up his big-man-on-campus persona, given that he was the crossover “star” from the original series. “I think Ben loved being on the Below Deck Med cast because he felt like a really big God because everybody else was new and looked up to him, so he was the only one who knew what he was doing,” she says, also adding that “the Mediterranean has a stigma of being more sophisticated, so Ben really felt like he could use his accent and his international knowledge more.”
Now that the Med season has wrapped, Kate shares that she actually has ties to some of its cast members. Kate says that Bobby Giancola, who she thinks is great, “is from my hometown [Melbourne, Florida], and I helped nudge him toward doing the yachting industry.”
Kate didn’t know the Med’s chief stew Hannah, but does admit she initially thought there might be a rivalry between them. “I mean, I would be lying to say I wasn’t at all feeling a little bit of potential rivalry because there’s another chief stew and another Below Deck,” she confesses, knowing that the audience would naturally make comparisons between the two.

But since the show has aired, Kate says it’s all good between the two chief stews: “I would love to work with or just hang out with Hannah. We’ve actually chatted on Skype a few times. I think we’re very similar. We have a lot of the same yachtie friends in the real yachting world. She’s badass.” A major difference between the two? One hooked up with Ben. One did not – despite her many desperate attempts!
Kate also enjoyed watching Jen Riservato (really?!) and Julia D’Albert Pusey on screen. And, surprise, surprise! She even met Tiffany post-filming – through Ben, of course. Says Kate about Tiffany, “I’ve met her a couple times at Ben’s house. I think everyone was great.”
Sure, everyone was great except, perhaps, the hideously arrogant and douchey first mate to ever sail the seas: Bryan. Kate shares that she did have the torturous pleasure of meeting Bryan. “And I’ve met him enough,” she quips.
Luckily for Kate, she wasn’t forced to be trapped on a boat with Bryan for 10 weeks. Although, it might be interesting to see how she would expertly handle him, no? Interestingly, Kate did not comment on everyone’s favorite “people person,” Danny Zuriekat. Ooh – I’d just love to hear her assessment of that man child!

Tamra insists she wasn’t instigating with Shannon Beador and Vicki, she wanted them to address things and move on. “I brought up the voicemail to Vicki because she could at least say “thank you” to Shannon and they could move on. After all, Shannon did reach out to see how she was doing and tell her she didn’t understand the severity of the accident. I think it was a big step for Shannon to approach Vicki and to tell her she was sorry. It seemed like Vicki clearly wanted to hold on to the fact Shannon didn’t see her at the hospital. Almost like she had the upper hand now.”
Tamra knew that things weren’t going to go well once Vicki called Shannon a liar. “Shannon is not the type of person to just sit back. I told her I tried to get Vicki to talk to her but she said “no”. So, Shannon tried one more time. Vicki was not warm and accepting even though Shannon spoke to her nicely. Then Vicki calls her a liar. I knew that wasn’t going to go over too well. Shannon is an open book. I know that for sure. I found it very disturbing when Vicki said, “I have secrets about Shannon and David that Shannon told me in confidence. I keep it in a box with a pad lock, and the key hidden. I might reveal the secret that she doesn’t want anyone to know.” Oh s***, that’s down right low!”
Tamra adds in her blog, “When things started to get heated I said it’s time to move on. Meaning making a scene in Meghan’s store is not going to resolve anything.”
She says that it’s not her fault that Vicki was dating a jerk (aka Brooks Ayers). “When Vicki told me she was dating a police officer I was so happy she had found someone. She constantly says she doesn’t want to bring guys around us because of what happened with Brooks. It’s like she thinks it’s everyone’s fault he lied about cancer and us girls are to blame. It’s not our fault she was dating a jerk! The funny thing is she has involved herself in everyone’s relationship in the past. But acts like a victim. After Brooks it’s been a running joke with me and Briana that we will run a background check on the next guy that comes into her life. No, I would never actually do that, but Briana might?”
She calls Vicki’s bluff, saying that Vicki is just a shit-talker for the most part when it comes to her threats. “I’ve know Vicki long enough to know she has a habit of telling people she has dirt on them and if they don’t stop pushing her buttons she will expose it. She did it to Meghan last year and to me the year before. It’s a very juvenile way of fighting. Clearly she has told Kelly about it because she had Kelly tell me and Heather hoping it would get back to Shannon, but I didn’t say anything because I knew it was nonsense and Vicki’s way of threatening Shannon.”
She blasts, “Bottom line, Vicki is a bully. To say that she has a secret about Shannon that would hurt her family is just absolutely disgusting. Her family has gone through enough hurt. Leave them alone, Vicki. Heather said it best: ‘When you have a secret, you don’t say anything about it. Vicki going around telling everyone is more of a threat than anything.'”
I can’t wait for this cast trip to Ireland. Travel porn and a reality star shit show. Best of both worlds!
